After I posted about the Swamp Visualizer, somebody asked why I was limiting it to 10% steps.
And frankly, I didn’t have an answer. Not only was it completely unnecessary, it actually made the internal calculations more difficult. It also prevented me from adequately showing my own diet, ex150, and the Standard American Diet, on the graph.
So of course I fixed it. Thank you, commenter! Duh.
You can now see exactly where ex150 falls, even though it’s not exactly on the 10% lines on all dimensions (4% carbs/6% protein):
And how ‘bout that SAD?
I’ve also added some info blurbs with links for the selected diets.
I’m planning on adding more interesting diets, e.g. the Kitavan sweet potato diet, maybe an Eskimo diet if I can find the macros. This way it’s trivial to add new diets, just type in the macros. No more 10% approximation!
If you know of an interesting diet and have a source for the exact macros (e.g. a study or paper), please let me know and I’d be happy to add it.
Ancestral diets would of course be very interesting, but, heck, if you have a study on modern Japanese or Norwegians or Belarusians, send it my way.
All it needs to show are the caloric percentages for carbs, protein, and fat.
It would be neat if you could plug in your estimated calorie expenditure and see the limits for the different regions in number of calories in grams. So if you know you're usually eating about 3000 calories you'd be able to see that a 10% protein limit would be 75g, etc.
You could add the Optimal Diet (Dr. K): 10% protein, 10% carb, 80% fat. According to him, it was best to have just enough carbs to stay out of ketosis (50 grams or so).
