I'm at work right now, and I only skimmed your article (I'll go back later and read it more carefully). But Bryan Johnson's approach reminds me a bit of what Dr. Peter Attia recommends in his book, "Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity". I'm almost done with the book, and it's excellent. It's inspired me to start tracking my glucose and to add strength training to my cardio routine (among other changes).

I've also been thinking of getting a CGM for experimental and data-gathering purposes. I don't think my PCP would be for it, though, and those meters are pricey. Two big barriers.

To get a continuous glucose monitor, you can get a prescription from Tastermonial for $39: https://tastermonial.com/pages/how

Then, you can order the actual device (actually, a pair of them) from Amazon Pharmacy for $142.50. I think you can have the prescription sent to your local pharmacy, as well. I haven't actually started using the CGM. I intend to start in a week or two.

I'll look into that, thanks for the link.

My direct primary care (DPC) just prescribed it to me, no questions asked. The CGMs themselves can be quite cheap; the best deal I found at a local pharmacy was $75 for 2, so a whole month's supply. I've paid up to $200 for a month's supply, though, too.

I agree, I admire that the guy is doing something. I disagree with what it is in specific, but the real value to what we do whether it makes us happy. If he's happy, I can't criticize that.

Another excellent post. I agree with your conclusions. I strive for as much sun exposure as I can safely get precisely because I want the UV on my skin for the testosterone benefits. If I reach an age or T number where I have to resign myself to patches, I will likely stop being shirtless so much of the year.

Although in Johnson's case, I feel as though the testosterone supplementation may be working at cross purposes - if his singular goal is life extension, I thought the science was fairly settled that maintaining only an absolute bare minimum of testosterone for brain function optimal, as is keeping one's HGH low. I do everything I can to keep both high, but my goal is to live as well as possible into my 70s, not so much to live beyond them.

"My nutrition strategy boils down to: get adequate-ish protein, vitamins, and minerals from red meat and dairy. Get the rest of calories from (low-PUFA) animal fats, in my case heavy cream. All the rest, like fiber and vegetables and carbs, is unnecessary noise."

Do you still think reducing BCAAs might be important? Or nah

Yea, low protein is basically my way of restricting BCAAs.

Do you reckon it matters if it's meat or eggs? For example. Or just low protein in general should do the trick.

Shouldn't matter.

Dope, thanks!

I'll read the rest as I'm able to, I'm in class right now. But! A quick note as to the othering of parts of one's self.

It's often used as a coping mechanism for bad habits and bad actions. A positive form of this, arguably, is what we see in some devout members of religions. God (or whomever one follows) is responsible for the good things in life, and we're trying to live up to that image. Mr. Johnson's version is negative, but it's the same type of othering; making an entity that is outside of the bounds of what one would call their best self the source, adjudicator, and/or authority responsible for those aspects of the self that feel like they are beyond the bounds of what one can accomplish.

Generally, in a positive form, this leads to wanting to become better and to be more of an example of what that outside power wants to see. In this specific negative form, Mr. Johnson is establishing a framework for creating control. I would bet money that he felt he lacked self-control, and this method gave him a way to create more of that.
