Hello and welcome to Experimental Fat Loss, where I run personal n=1 experiments in order to reverse my obesity.
I started out morbidly obese, reaching just over 300lbs of body weight. I’ve since lost over 40lbs 50lbs 60lbs 70lbs so far! And I spent most of 2024 not in the “Obese” category, though I am still “Overweight.”
My specialty is cracking the more “tough cases” of obesity. Some people can reverse their obesity by “just eating less” or “cutting out junk food” or “counting carolies” or “drinking less alcohol/soda.” But for a growing number of people, these “simple” solutions don’t work.
I call these people “tough cases,” in contrast with those who will lose weight doing just about anything.
Instead, people like us seem to need more aggressive or “extreme” interventions. “Why don’t you just do X?” other people will say, “it worked for me!”
Trust me, we’ve tried X. It just doesn’t work for us tough cases.
You can read about my definition & approach to tough cases here:
My Constituency: Tough Obesity Cases
I recently got involved in a Twitter thread that reminded of the true purpose of this blog:
If you’re interested in my personal journey, I recommend you start with this introduction/manifesto:
If you’re interested in what exactly I’m eating on ex150, the diet on which I’ve effortlessly lost over 70lbs, here is a description of the macros in detail:
ex150 diet macros: 2,294kcal, 88% fat, down 46lbs so far
As a reminder, I call my current diet ex150 and you can check out that post for the reasoning and hypothesis behind it, as well as the experiments leading up to it. It consists of the following: 1 meal per day of 150g beef + 60g green vegetables + 80g tomato or alfredo sauce
